Comparisons of Speckle Noise Filtering Methods on Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar Images
نویسندگان
چکیده
Speckle noise in interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) phase images seriously degrades the quality of interferogram, disenables interferogram to reflect accurate phase characteristics of the target and increases the difficulty in extracting DEM information of the target area. Therefore, reducing speckle noise by interferogram filtering is a significant step in InSAR processing. First, a noise-included interferometric SAR phase image is simulated based on a terrain model and geometrical parameters of InSAR system. The phase image can be characterized by multilook phase distribution. Then, three interferogram filtering algorithm are explored to remove speckle noise: Goldstain filter, rotating kernel transformation and Lee filter. Proper implementation of three methods is given. Based on experimental results, performances of three different methods are compared. Two aspects need to be comprehensively considered in noise reduction process: the required accuracy in practical application and the processing duration. And also secondtime or multiple combined noise reduction is highly recommended.

Speckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Exploiting Intra-scale and Inter-scale Dependencies
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images are inherently affected by a multiplicative noise-like phenomenon called speckle, which is indeed the nature of all coherent systems. Speckle decreases the performance of almost all the information extraction methods such as classification, segmentation, and change detection, therefore speckle must be suppressed. Despeckling can be applied by the multilooki...
متن کاملSpeckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Using Laplace Distribution
Speckle is a granular noise-like phenomenon which appears in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images due to coherent properties of SAR systems. The presence of speckle complicates both human and automatic analysis of SAR images. As a result, speckle reduction is an important preprocessing step for many SAR remote sensing applications. Speckle reduction can be made through multi-looking during the...
متن کاملEnhanced Directional Smoothing Algorithm for Edge-Preserving Smoothing of Synthetic-Aperture Radar Images
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images are subject to prominent speckle noise, which is generally considered a purely multiplicative noise process. In theory, this multiplicative noise is that the ratio of the standard deviation to the signal value, the “coefficient of variation,” is theoretically constant at every point in a SAR image. Most of the filters for speckle reduction are based on this...
متن کاملPerformance of Speckle Noise Reduction Filters on Active Radar and SAR Images
Reduction of speckle noise is one of the most important processes to increase the quality of radar coherent images. Image variances or speckle is a granular noise that inherently exists in and degrades the quality of the active radar and SAR images. Before using active radar and SAR imageries, the very first step is to reduce the effect of Speckle noise. Most of speckle reduction techniques hav...
متن کاملThe Effect of Speckle Reduction on Coherence Estimation and Interferometric Phase of Insar
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images always suffer from strongly speckle noise, which is a great obstacle to coherence (or correlation coefficient) estimation and interferometric phase, furthermore hinders the accuracy of phase unwrapping and information extraction with SAR interferometry (InSAR) technique. In this article, we propose to suppress the speckle of SAR images with several self-ada...
